Frequently Asked Questions

1. What types of drone inspections does Fly Scan provide?

Fly Scan provides professional drone inspection services for buildings, roofs, industrial assets, infrastructure and other hard-to-access areas. Our services can include high-resolution visual inspections, thermal imaging, solar panel inspections, construction progress monitoring, mapping and 3D modelling.

2. What are the benefits of using a drone for an inspection?

Drone inspections can provide detailed visual information without the need for scaffolding, elevated work platforms or personnel accessing difficult or hazardous areas. This can help reduce inspection time, improve safety and provide high-quality documentation of asset conditions.

3. Can you perform thermal inspections?

Yes. Fly Scan can use thermal imaging to identify temperature differences that may indicate potential issues such as moisture, electrical faults, insulation problems or overheating components. Thermal inspections are generally combined with high-resolution visual imagery for better assessment.

4. Do you provide solar panel inspections?

Yes. Fly Scan provides drone-based solar panel inspections using high-resolution and thermal imaging. Thermal data can help identify abnormal temperature patterns that may indicate potential issues with individual panels or other components of a solar installation.

5. Can you inspect roofs and buildings?

Yes. Drone inspections are suitable for roofs, facades, gutters, building structures and other areas that may be difficult or unsafe to access. We can provide detailed photographs and inspection documentation to help identify visible defects or areas requiring further investigation.

6. Can you inspect industrial assets and infrastructure?

Yes. Fly Scan can inspect a wide range of industrial assets and infrastructure, including structures, equipment, roofs, towers and other large or difficult-to-access assets. The inspection can be tailored to the client's requirements.

7. Do you provide construction progress monitoring?

Yes. Fly Scan can capture regular aerial imagery to document construction progress over time. Depending on the project requirements, we can provide high-resolution photographs, 2D maps, 3D models and other deliverables.

8. Can Fly Scan measure stockpiles?

Yes. Fly Scan can use drone photogrammetry to survey stockpiles and calculate volume, area and other measurements. This can be used for materials such as soil, sand, gravel, aggregate and other bulk materials. Regular drone surveys can also help businesses monitor stock levels and changes over time, supporting inventory management, reporting and site planning.

9. Do you provide drone mapping, surveying and 3D modelling?

Yes. Fly Scan can create detailed 2D orthomosaic maps, 3D models, point clouds, surface models and stockpile volume measurements from drone imagery. Deliverables can be tailored to the requirements of construction, quarrying, mining, earthworks and other industries.

10. Can Fly Scan operate near airports or restricted airspace?

Drone operations are subject to Australian aviation regulations and airspace restrictions. Before a job, Fly Scan assesses the location and proposed operation to determine the applicable requirements and permissions. We do not simply fly where it is convenient—we plan each operation around the applicable CASA requirements.

11. What information do you need to provide a quote?

Usually, we need the site address, type of asset, inspection requirements, approximate size of the area or asset, preferred date and any specific reporting requirements. Photos, drawings or previous inspection reports can also be helpful. See our Contact page.
